Nightingale w/ Miss Magpie // Cud Eastbound // Dani-Rae live at the VEC
April 1 @ 7:00 PM - 10:00 PM
When Nightingale (Marisa Etchart) sings, it is when the witch’s withered hand plucks the chords of this sacred land. Born from a flame in Kamloops BC, Nightingale delivers to audiences a medley of voice, banjo & guitar, recreating the spirited elements of this land for which we all live and share. Her immersive performance deepens like a sonic-labrnyth, honouring the
reverence of the nature that surrounds us.” (Nature-Folk, Necromancer-Roots)
Miss Magpie is a songstress based out of Victoria BC. One could conceive her music as alt folk with a particularly dark twist, along with a more upbeat spoken word/hiphop side. She can often be found playing with a cellist, a fiddler, a percussionist, a bass player and any other selection of instrumentalists. The end of winter hibernation has come and thus the Magpie is coming for a night to sing her darkly dreamily sweet songs.
Cud Eastbound’s music is best described as imparting a sense of optimism despite adversity. The rawness of their lyricism and vocal style, overtop their well crafted guitar and banjo driven melodies will bring you to your greatest feelings of loss, before reminding you that you still have the opportunity to grow, learn and change.
Honing their recognizable style, filled with poetic introspection and vivid lyricism, Cud has spent the better part of 10 years touring extensively across Canada, the United States, Australia & Indonesia; all the while generating themselves an ever-growing following, based not only on their abilities as a lyricist or musician, but due to their honest and often times vulnerable approach to their music and their audience.
Dani-Rae is a Vancouver based folk singer songwriter via Montreal who performs with groups Ornery and Nellie Kane.
